Week 7 (07/04/25)
This week I managed to finish quite a bit of work. I finished the Mace, by texturing it in Substance Painter, and then modelled and textured the backdrop.
For the texture of the mace, I used the metal smart material, I made, for the connectors and ends. I created another smart material of the spear shaft and put that on the shaft of the mace, adjusting the textures to fit. I then created the gold material for the trim that goes round the head of the mace. I wanted the grip of the mace to be more unique compared to the others so I decided to make it more of a leather wrap. I gave it a similar colourful (but purple) look like the other weapons, but the wear isn't as harsh and the wrap is tighter/closer together. I thought that plain stone was too boring for the head of the mace, so I gave it more of a marble look. I kept the roughness low and added multiple layers of a marble effect that were different shades.
I decided to create the backdrop in a similar way to that of my previous project. I made modular pieces that could be put together in various ways so that I could alter the backdrop to more easily compose my scene. For the textures, I made a simple sandstone texture using various grunge maps to give it detail. I added a slope blur to give it a blotchy painted feel similar to my weapons. I kept the models and textures fairly simple so that the weapons could stand out and be the most prominent pieces in the scene. I made two variations of the sandstone with slightly different patterns and shades so that the scene wouldn't feel flat.
For next week, I plan to put all my pieces together in Unreal Engine and compose my scene.
